Monroe County Fair 2018 - Sunday

1:00 PM - 10:00 PM

The Monroe County Democratic Party staffs tables at a tent located on Milan Avenue east of the Poultry and Rabbit Building. The tent is staffed from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM.

Volunteers are needed to set up the display tables and decorate the tent, to staff the tent throughout the week and the help take down the displays and decorations at the end of the week.

Set up takes place during the daytime on Saturday before the fair week. Morning volunteers must arrive early to make sure the tent is open at 10:00 AM. Volunteers must stay late on the final day of the fair to take down displays and decorations immediately after the fair closes at 10:00 PM.

Volunteers who work long shifts greater than six (6) hours will be provided with tickets if requested. Democratic office holders and candidates are expected to spend time in the tent at their own expense. Ice and water will be available for volunteers and guests.

Free parking is available both east of the fairgrounds off S Custer Rd and south of the fairgrounds off S Raisinville Rd.

Admission: Adults $6.00, Children 6 thru 12 $3.00 and Children 5 & under with parents FREE; Passbook (buy6, get 1 free) $36.00.

Special days: Monday Veteran's Day Any Veteran with proper I.D. will be admitted FREE until 6:00pm, Tuesday Kids’ Day Free Admission until 5:00pm (school age only – up to 17 years), Wednesday Senior Citizens’ Day Any person 65 or older admitted for $2.00 until 5:00pm, Thursday Ladies’ Day All Women & Girls over 12 years of age admitted for $2.00 until 3:00pm.

Monroe County Fair 2018 - Parade

1:00 PM - 2:30 PM

Monroe County Democrats are invited to help kick off the 2018 Monroe County Fair by walking with the float in the parade. Democrats who wish to walk in the parade must be in place at noon.

The parade steps off at 1:00 PM sharp! The political parties are usually the last to step off and may not leave the staging area on Jones Ave until about 2:00 PM The parade route is 1.6 miles and is walked in about 33 minutes. The parade dumps out in a field on W Elm Ave just west of the railroad tracks.

Parking cars can be problematic. Cars can normally be parked in the Kroger plaza parking lot on S Monroe St opposite the intersection of Jones Ave and S Monroe St wihich is a short 2 minute walk from the staging area. Some parking may be available on Jones Ave but do NOT park in the staging area. Parking is also normally available in the field west of the railroad tracks where the parade dumps out. Some parking may be available in the YMCA parking lot opposite the dumping out area.

Volunteers are needed to help with final assembly of the float several hours ahead of the parade and with dissasembly after the parade. Democrats who wish to be involved with float assembly, transportation and dissassembly should contact Jon Moore (734) 972-8718 trophyjon@gmail.com.
