MCDP Monthly Executive Committee Meeting

The Executive Committee is the committee consisting of candidates nominated in the most recent Primary Election for county office and state legislative office AND members elected by precinct delegates.

The Executive Committee hears reports and approves the business of the Monroe County Democratic Party in the months between the quarterly meetings of the County Committee.

SPECIAL NOTICE: The Executive Committee will expand in the “new business” portion of the March 1, 2018 meeting to allow all eligible members of the county party to vote on a proposed amendment to the bylaws. 
 
Motion to Amend. A motion to amend the bylaws was put forth at the January 4, 2018 meeting of the County Committee.
“I hereby move that the Bylaws of the Monroe County Democratic Party be amended to strike from Article VIII, Order of Business, the first item of business “Pledge of Allegiance” and replace it with “Call to Order” furthermore adding “Section 2. There shall be no place in the order of business for religious observances including but not limited to the Pledge of Allegiance, an invocation and/or a moment of silence. The order of business shall briskly move from Call to Order to the Roll Call of Officers without intermission.” 
 
Rules and Bylaws Committee Report. The Rules and Bylaws Committee met on January 31, 2018 and unanimously recommends a “no” vote on the Motion to Amend. 
 
Eligible voters must be members of the Michigan Democratic Party residing in Monroe County who were members on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 (30 days before the vote).

Members of the Michigan Democratic Party residing in Monroe County and friendly members of the public are welcome to attend and observe. The business portion of this meeting begins at 7:00 PM and is expected to conclude by 8:00 PM.

Parking is free after 5 PM is the City of Monroe parking lot located south of the city offices and east of the county courthouse. Democrats meet in Commissioners Chambers located on the lower floor left of the east entrance of the county courthouse. The doors open between 15 and 30 minutes ahead of the meeting and close 30 minutes after the meeting.

Democrats are invited to socialize after the meeting at McGeady’s Town Pub, 39 S Monroe St, Monroe, MI 48161.
